HAIR UPDATE: 6 Weeks Post

IMG_7761

finger detangled hair, slightly damp at roots

Hello ladies
Time seems to have flown by and I am now 6 weeks post. I washed and conditioned my hair last night and thought It would be a good point to share a little hair update.
My hair is in good condition I suppose. I don’t have that much new growth yet so I dont have to worry about managing two textures at this point. I air died on this wash day and so my hair has a lil poof going on which I am not opposed to at all 🙂

If I ‘am being honest, when my roots are all poofy my ends look thin comparison. But I had a good look at my ends a and know that they are not damaged or split ( especially because I trimmed off about 4 inches in total this year).   I’ve decided to wait till my next texlax in October and then I’ll do a maintenance trim since I don’t intend to let my hair get any longer.

I have started using a new leave in conditioner which my hair absolutely loves.  I am on my second bottle and it is now a stable part of my regimen. I will do a product review of it as my next blog post.

How many weeks post are you?  What’s happening with your hair?  Have you tried something new recently?

x

      Hello Bee
Thank you and sorry about the hair loss you are experiencing. I suggest that you create and be consistent with a good hair care regimen. Please read the contents of the How To care for Black Hair section of this blog.
Also ensure that you don’t have any health issues or medication that may be causing hair loss by speaking with your doctor.

      best of luck

Amazing hair-your site is so informative and inspirational. Thanks! Are you still using the ‘hair band’ method to air dry your hair? Also how do you deal with several textures of under processed hair. I currently have 3 textures-natural, very slightly texlaxed and fully texlaxed. I’m wondering how to make it all the same texture without over processing at my next touch up.
    Thanks again

      Hello Dianne
Thank you soooo so so much.
I tend to use the hair band method to air dry when I have a lot of new growth. I am currently 8 weeks post so I will start using it soon.
Working with different textures is certainly a challenge. what works forme is working on my hair in sections…..I do everything in sections from washing through to moisturising and sealing. I try to detangle regularly and to keep my hair well moisturised.
Also I DON’T focus too much on blending my textures as this will require heat or a lot of manipulation (braid out) because I am too lazy and because the different textures are usually only really obvious when my hair is wet.

I hope all the above helps

Thanks very! That makes a lot of sense. I think at my next texlax I will just have to do a test section in the back. I have 3 different textures and I want to correct it to make it all one texture 🙂

Hi Lade, so i just ended my 6 months stretch ( i know you warned me that the stretch may be too long) and i am not sure what i have on my hair yet, i am still confused..its still quite difficult for me to comb through my hair, so i am thinking may be i put too much olive oil in my relaxer or timing of having the relaxer on my hair was too short.. I almost want to go and texlax my hair again.. HELP!! I am not sure if there has been any progress on growth and i keep showing your hair to people as my target length. They will be LOLing at me..Oh well…any advice you can offer?

      Awwww Nola

Sorry that your texlax didn’t turn out how you would like.
It sounds as though your new growth is underprocessed ( or more underprocessed than you would like) you can do a corrective texlax but need to wait about 6 weeks before doing one. you can do more research about this
Also on a hair journey it is better to take baby steps rather than jumping into things.
So please next time you stretch do it gradually.
I guess this is a learning curve so that next time you texlax you will have a better idea of how much oil to apply and how long to leave the relaxer in your hair for.
in the interim don’t give up on your hair journey, just be consistent and keep things simple.
