Hair Update

DSC_9482

Hello ladies

Its time I share my hair update especially since I have managed to stay on track after narrowly escaping a major setback late last year. I am proud of myself for that 🙂

I had a wash day a few days ago and decided I might as well take a few pictures to share with you all. I took these pictures 4 days after my wash day and had not combed my hair since wash day. I haven’t done a proper length check in such a while and decided to do and impromptu one hence me pulling my hair in all kinds of angles. This is the wrong time to do a length check though as my hair is sooooo many weeks post relaxer and isn’t its “normal self” at the moment.

How Many Weeks Post am I?

I am currently 19 weeks post relaxer. I think I have about 2 inches of new growth.

Current State of My Hair

When my hair is this many weeks post relaxer, it tends to feel mega dry despite me moisturising and sealing daily. It also tends to feel stiff and is difficult to style. I usually switch to heavier products when my hair begins to act this way.

The thing that annoys me is how the length of my hair tends to clump together and matt when it has a lot of new growth. It means I have to detangle it daily or every other day and this can be quite time consuming. This is the biggest challenge I have with my hair at the moment and it is the reason I use wigs to help me avoid spending so much time on hair care daily. Please click here to see my wig regimen.
What I do looooove about my hair having this much new growth is how much volume my hair has. My buns look huge and I can create a lot of gravity defying up-does.

All in all I am really pleased my hair and I have kissed and made up after I neglected it for about a month. My hair looks healthy and my ends aren’t bad either. But this is because I trimmed off about an inch and half a few weeks ago.

That’s my hair update in a nutshell. What’s happening with your hair ladies? How many weeks post are you? What challenges are you facing with your hair at the moment?

My next post will be an educative one about how scalp massages help boost hair growth. Come back soon!!!!

    Hello,
My name is Starlette, and I am from Louisiana. The weather here can be extremely humid. It is such a blessing to read your updates and follow you on your journey. I am also on a journey with my hair. My hair used to be long [length used to be to my mid-back] but due to kidney stones for over 30 years and pain medication, it was damaged. Also, there were times I put my own relaxer and damaged it more. Now, in 2017, it is much healthier. I just started on my hair journey in October of 2016. I had the dead ends of my hair trimmed off in October by a professional. A relaxer was put in at the time on October 6th. Afterwards, I began a regimen for my hair, and it worked. It is still working. I wash weekly, moisturize and deep condition, moisturize and seal, use Aphogee protein products once a month, and wear protective hairstyles. I have not tried wigs yet. Never wore one but just tried some on in the store with friends who wear them. I just put a relaxer on January 20th. Like you, I am waiting longer between relaxers. I had a good amount of new growth. Not sure how much. Now since I know I can go longer, I will stretch the relaxers longer. Would love to send you before and after pictures. Wish I new how to send pictures. I have them on my phone but do not know how to upload them to your page.
Well, I do not plan on relaxing my hair again until May. I will continue to take pictures. I purchased a t-shirt with numbers on the back to get an idea of my hair length. That was a good idea you had, so I purchased one as well. I will keep you updated. I ALWAYS look forward to your posts. Thank you for educating me on my hair and sharing your journey.

      Starlette!!!!!!

      Thank you.
You have no idea how much I really appreciate your comment and you taking the time to let me know that Hairducation is helping with your hair.
Honestly these kind of comments really inspires and motivates me to keep blogging because there are some days I question whether I have done all I can with regards to Hairducation.
But knowing that ladies like yourself actually look forward to the updates, its a reminder that Hairducation was never meant to be about me, it was always supposed to be you and the other thousands of ladies who read it. What I hoped to achieve with Hairducation was to motivate and inspire ladies in this small aspect of their life and hope that the positive results would in turn motivate them in every other aspect of life. That is what my own hair journey did for me. It got me asking what else is possible that I previously thought I couldn’t do.
So long as you are happy to keep reading, I am honoured to keep writing. Again, thank you.

      Okay mushiness over 🙂
I am really happy that you are seeing progress with your hair and are stretching longer.
I hope you continue to see improvements with your hair and don’t have any further setbacks.

It’s looking good Lade! My hair is just a mess at the moment, I haven’t had enough time to really look after it.

      Thank you!!!!!
We all have those moments….when we just don’t seem to have the time. That’s why its important to have a regimen that will fit into your life style and have a plan or regimen you can follow when you have a busy period that will take very little time daily. For me that is my wig regimen, I hope you find what will work for you.

Hi Lade, I am 16 weeks post relaxer. And seem to be having the same challenges as you, I have resorted to using liquid moisturising spray as it seems any moisturiser just sits on top of my hair and dries out before the day is over. My hair feels very course, similar to what it feels like after a tea rinse or protein deep conditioner.

      Hello Basani

It is certainly very challenging to stretch hair for long periods. It is normal for products to dry out by the end of the day.
That is why many ladies moisturise and seal daily or and some do it twice a day. It may be that the products you are using are too thin for your hair, maybe you need heavier products. You may also need to use a clarifying shampoo if you have product build up on your hair that is preventing your products from being absorbed.
I hope this helps a bit.

    Hi Lade,
I’m new to your blog and I just want to say that your air has inspired me to go on a hair journey myself. I’m trying to start my regimen and I would like to know if I can substitute some products you mentioned in your hair regimen like the Motions moisture plus (because I can’t seem to find it anywhere) with a conditioner like Shea Moisture.

      Hello Elizabeth

I am soo sorry for the late response.
Unfortunately I don’t have an office at moment. I don’t know what the problem is with your hair but if you Google trichologists in Lekki I am sure you will find someone who can help you.
      All the best

    Hi Lade
I’m from kaduna state and I’av been following your blog for a month now and it’s really inspiring, your hair blog actually inspired me to start healthy hair journey amd i just started my hair journey this month,my hair is in a very bad shape now,got new hair products like the ones you recommended. I pre shampoo, shampoo, deep conditioning(moisture & protein),use of leave in conditioner(moisture & protein) as well, moisturize & seal daily but I don’t wear protective style bcos I don’t wear wig, extensions or braid but i plate(thats kiso in my lang*hausa) my hair as a protective style every week but my question is how do you moisturize and seal with protective style on? bcos I don’t get to moisturize the hair only the scalp . Thank you

      Hello Maryam

well done on starting your hair journey and sorry for the delay in getting back to you.
The best thing to use is a very light moisturiser that is in a spray bottle.
      I hope that helps
      All the best
