Hair Update

Hello ladies

Its been another little while.  I am sorry.I have so many commitments at the moment and its still a bit of a struggle to balance life and blogging but I’ll keep trying.  How is everyone’s hair journey going?

This is a very short hair update post.  I am now 16 weeks post relaxer and still following my wig regimen for a few more weeks.  I have managed to stick to my regimen but I slacked a little this past week with moisturising and sealing.   I need to get back on track with that.

I have a lot of new growth at the moment and my hair tends to matt and tangle a lot more than usual. I air dry in sections when I have loads of new growth.   Air drying this way helps to prevent matting and keeps my new growth stretched.

What’s happening with your hair ladies?
Come back soon for my next post in which I share one of my go-to hairstyles …..and it isn’t a bun.

x

Hi Lade. I love your blog and I’m new here too.
I have a question to ask. My hair is stubborn though relaxed and i read about washing ones hair a week before retouching on your blog. If i wash my hair when i’m not retouching and leave it for a week before retouching, it becomes so hard to comb, breaks when coming due to its hard nature. what hair style can i do to keep me from combing everyday, prevent breakage till the week is over for me to retouch it?

Secondly, i learnt that its important ones hair needs to be very dirty before retouching, so that it will prevent it from getting burnt and allow it relax well but on your blog, i learnt a new thing that the hair should be washed before retouching. for the first time I want to try your method of washing a week before retouching but scared of my scalp getting burnt because my scalp is sensitive though i have a stubborn hair. Please help me on this.

    Thanks.

      Hello Mami Jay

Thank you for your compliments : )
The final week before relaxing you have to try to finger detangle ( and use a wide comb tooth comb if necessary) to prevent matting every two days or so depending on how much matting you experience. You also have to keep up with moisturising and sealing but try to avoid scratching or irritating the scalp.

To prevent relaxer burn you must base/cover your scalp with olive oil or Jamaican black castor oil or Vaseline to form a protective barrier. Also ensure that you have not irritated or scratched your scalp a before relaxing.

      Hope that helps

    Hi Lade
just wanted to say kudos to you…seriously stretching to 20weeks is not easy. Most especially the detangling part hmmm.
Today i got a relaxer touch up after waiting for 19 weeks but something went wrong…i washed d relaxer too soon and my hair is still curly as if i havent put a relaxer on it.
What do you think? Can i re-relax the hair after 1 or 2weeks?

      Hello Rachel

I am so so sorry for the late response. Ive been extremely busy with studying and exams.
In case you come back to read this and need future advice I would say try to wait about 6 weeks before trying to do a cotrective relaxer.
In the time whilst you are waiting you can put your hair in a short term protective style such as jumbo braids ( if your hair and hairline can tolerate braids) or wear a wig for a while with your hair( without extensions) in cornrows or single braids underneath the wig.

Just be sure to be really careful when washing or stylying hair that has a lot of new growth to minimise breakage.

      I hope that helps
