Hair Update: 5 Months Post Relaxer

2016-09-10-21-01-39
Hello ladies

Its hair update time!!
I am now 24 weeks post relaxer and my new growth has taken over.

I was supposed to texlax in August but due to exams and life I put it off for a while. I’ll probably texlax it in a week or so.  I switched to my wig regimen about 14 weeks ago (if you would like to see my regular hair regimen and wig regimen please click here).
As always wigs have been a life hair saver. I always recommend putting hair with a lot of new growth in a protective style to reduce day to day manipulation. This is helps to cut down the risk of breakage especially at the line of demarcation (where the relaxed hair and new growth meet).

Whilst following my wig regimen, whenever I had a wash day, I tend to leave my hair out for a few days and usually try to wear styles that take advantage of the volume my new growth gives me.   The pictures in this post is an example of the type of styles I like to wear when my hair is super due. I have been loving faux bobs recently.

Because my hair is texlaxed there isn’t a great difference between my natural hair and chemically altered hair which makes blending the two textures fairly easy.  But don’t let me sugar coat stretching, wash days seem like so much work and detangling takes forever but in the end stretching relaxers is usually worth it if you keep up with your regimen.
That said I am counting down to relaxer day.

How many week s post are you? Is anybody else relaxing their hair soon?
My next post will about hair porosity, how to avoid and manage it.

x

I’m 15 weeks post relaxer. I’m due to texlax my hair in 5 weeks time. Yesterday was my hair wash day. I dread hair wash days because it literally takes the whole day to wash, deep condition and takes forever to detangle my hair. I’ve found out that washing my hair in smaller sized braids helps to reduce tangling versus washing in big braids.
Since I started my hair journey a year ago, I’ve seen tremendous results. I’ve never had a problem with growing long hair but my hair grew thinner and lifeless over the years due to wrong hair practices and wrong products’ usage.
I’m still on the journey and I can say that my hair is better than it has ever been. Can’t wait for it to grow back to its former length (bra length). I did a semi-big chop in March to shoulder length to get rid of some split ends as I couldn’t bring myself to cut off more that I did.
Thanks for being an inspiration and sharing your hair journey.

Hi Lade, I also want to ask a question. Do I have to wait until my hair is completely dry before I moisturise and seal? My usual practice is to allow my hair to dry, then I moisturise and seal. But I find out that my hair is wet all over again and I have to wait for it to dry a second time. Please when is the right time to moisturise and seal post washing?

      Hello Oge

      No you don’t have to.
you can moisturise and seal when your hair is damp and then let it dry but see how your hair feels or does with this method.
also Moisturising and sealing should not get your hair wet, your hair should feel moisturised not wet, you might be applying too much product or maybe the product you are using is too runny for your hair.

      Hope that helps

Nice job with the blog redesign. It’s looks very clean. 🙂 I’ve lost count of how many weeks post relaxer I am. However, I’m transitioning so I guess it can be expected. 🙂

Hello Lade! i’ve been stalking you o! Well, your blog and tweets basically. Lool. In my head, we’re besties right now mehn. Because my hair must reach my waist too by fire, by force! Lol.
Seriously though… I’ve got pretty good hair (by “our standard”) and before i came across your blog, i would try to do 6 months between retouches and start to wear protective styles 3 months post relaxer and stuff like that. I had a fair idea of the “right” thngs to do, but now i know better, i was onviously only doing about 25%
Thanks to you now though, after 3 months, i thnk i can almost proudly say i have my own hair regimen.
My one big challenge now however,,, as relax day draws near- it’ll be 24weeks post relaxer on sept 30th- is which salon to go! Usually, i’d go bone straight, and it really wasnt a problem getting a retouch. I’d make sure they only work with their hands after application and i dont stay for too long before washing it off.
Buuut noow… I really would love to texlax and see how that goes. I’m however very worried about my hair getting over or under processed. I’ll be really sad 🙁 so pretty please, which salon do u go to get your hair done in this lagos bikko? It’d be really nice to know. Cos alredy, they’d have gotten the hang of texlaxing, and proper hair care in general, so i’m positive i won’t have to start giving instructions without being looked at like a cray person.
I’m sooo sorry for my epistle.. Got very excited and carried away talking (well typing) to you 🙂

Thank you sooooo much for your message and well done on your regimen and efforts at hair care.
I have mentioned in several of my texlaxed related blog posts that there is a degree of experimentation required before you achieve your perfect texlaxed texture. I also mentioned in several of my posts that I texlax my hair myself at home and my sister helps me with the front.
Ive been doing my hair myself for a while and I have been professionally trained so I know what I am doing and I am so used to doing it myself

The salon I consult from ( Oreola Studios in Lekki Phase One Lagos) should be able to help you texlax your hair if you are looking for a good salon. as for Chuks
And please read my blog posts about texlaxing so you know exactly what to expect ….you can find the blogs posts by typing “texlaxed” into the looking for something search bar…the search bar is on the right side bar.

      Good luck

    Hey Lade!

Love your blog! Many thanks for the regular updates coz some of us pretty much swear by your hair advice!

My hair has been doing so much better now that i have a bit more hair knowledge, ie: Washing weekly, deep conditioning after every wash, moisturising and sealing daily + protective styles.

But i always feel like my ends could be thicker or fuller at the bottom. How do I achieve this?

      hello CK

      thank you!!!!
I am glad your hair is much better now
Our ends are naturally thinner than the base of our hair. The ends are the oldests parts of our hair so each fibre would have wirn down and chipped off over the months and years.
What is not normall is when your ends are extremely thin. If this is the case you should trim those very thin ends of, stay consistent with moisturising and sealing especially at your ends and also keep up with protective styling.

      All the best with it

Your blog template is so clean! As regards texlaxing it can be a bit painful detangling and combing your hair(I van totally relate). I had my last relaxer first week of August and I can’t wait for my next relaxer!

I also share my hair journey on my blog http://www.lilyofnigeria.blogspot.com and will love for you to check it out whenever you can.

Thank you so much. The new blog template looks good and I am glad you like it. I know detangling can be such a pain when deep on a stretch.
I hope your next relaxer goes well.

We all have our preferences when it comes to grooming our hair and keeping it the way we want it for months can be a bit intimidating especially for those busy people. I hope your relaxer day went well.
