HAIR UPDATE!

Hello Ladies,

IMG_8448

My hair has been on a hiatus because I am still following my wig regimen. I took these pictures a day after my wash day and intend to put my hair back in box braids so I can continue with my wig regimen.

I am currently 21 weeks post and I had planned to relax/texlax my hair by now but with a few packed weeks ahead i decided to wait a little while longer.
Freshly relaxed or texlaxed hair need a lot of TLC that I don’t have the time for at the moment. I am simply going to follow my wig regimen till my schedule is a little less intense.

I have a lot of new growth as can be seen in the pictures.  You may also notice that my hair especially the new growth looks a little dry.  Well yes it is….I moisturised and sealed immediately after taking these pictures.

My hair sucks up moisture a lot more when I am deep on a stretch so I have to make more efforts to hydrate it regularly.  Detangling also takes a bit of a while and I have to commit to that.

My ends….I am back to not being happy with my ends.  I feel a mini cut coming cut coming on when I texlax.  It is needed….raggedy ends have got to go.

I think that’s about it. What is happening with your hair ladies? Anybody else on a stretch?

My next post will be a guide for ladies who want to transition to natural. I may not be transitioning but I hope I can at least be of some help to ladies who would like to make that change.  The post will also be very useful for ladies who stretch their relaxers.

Come back soon ladies,

x

I love your blog and I love your tips.
For somehow I’ve been experiencing lot of shedding,e everyday, but specially on wash days, I’ve tried apple cider vinager, black tea, garlic but still didn’t stop. And its been 3 months, since its been shedding crazy, until today when I tried detangled my hair before washing, and I washed my hair and deep conditioned in braids, and the shedding was too much. My hair isn’t breaking much but its been shedding a lot and I dont know if its because of transitioning or stretching my relaxer for 40 weeks. Is it normal for hair to shed a lot when stretching relaxer? This ofter happends when I stretch for more than 5 months.
Thank you for your tips and your an inspiration,
    Kelly

      Hello Kelly
Sorry about all the shedding you are experiencing
Whilst breakage is usually caused by physical/external factors like damage from heat, chemical over-processing, aggressive stylying and combing etc….shedding on the other hand is usually caused by internal factors such as stress, diet deficiencies, hormones..etc
Please note that some shedding is normal and is part of our hair growth cycle.
The above being said if your hair starts to shed at a much higher rate than normal then you should try to minimise the shedding.
Some ladies do notice that their hair seems to shed more when they are deep on a stretch. The fact is the longer you are on a stretch the more difficult it is to manage different textures which may lead to more breakage.
May I ask why you stretch for more than 40 weeks?…..especially if you may be losing hair as a result of it. Stretching is great and has a lot of benefits but if its becoming counter productive then you may want to consider reducing your stretch.
let me know what you decide to do and how it goes
      best of luck

Hi Omolade! Wish I could stretch as long as you do! Also..im about to retouch my hair and pleaseee I really need to know how long the ORS Organic Lye Relaxer keeps for? Opened mine about 2 months ago and used half of it. Is it still okay to use the rest even though I didn’t store it in the fridge and etc? How do you keep yours? Thanks a lot.

      Hello Tee
      Thank you for your comment
Any stretch longer than 10 weeks is good. You should only stretch for as long as you know you can manage but so long as it is 10 weeks or more then its okay. and don’t forget I use wigs to help me stretch for 20+ weeks.
With regards to your question about relaxers, I haven’t done research into how long they keep for. speaking from my own personal experience, I also use the ORS lye relaxer ( the one that you DONT mix with an activator) and I have used a half jar that I DID NOT store in a frige after many months ( maybe 4 or 5 months) and it was fine for me.
The jar had been kept well closed and stored in my bathroom cabinet. Also I had not mixed any oil with it. It was fine for me.
      I hope that helps

      Hello again Precious

Try not to panic too much.
I don’t know what hair regimen you are following but I suggest is that you review your protein and moisture balance as this is something ladies new to hair journeys often struggle with.
How does your hair feel….is it really dry and rough?
If yes Maybe the conditioners you’re using may be protein based and you may need to increase your use of moisture based products.
      I hope that helps

    Hi Lade,
Let me first start off saying I love you hair! Your blog has been a blessing to my hair journey. I have had so many set backs and actually thought about giving up on relaxed hair. But to my realization relaxing it bone straight was my down fall to my set backs. What my hair truly needed was to be telexed. The core cause of my problem was over processing along with too much heat. Anyways, to make a long story short I have fine tune my regiment from your suggestions and my hair has gained so much thickness from root to about an inch or two from the ends. I’m allergic to argon oil, but I’ve been doing pretty well with the cantu and s-curl mixture as a leave in. But I just want to say thank you for putting in the time and effort on your blog. My next investment will be toward one of the nazuri curls wigs. Please keep the posts going because there aren’t a lot of telexed bloggers or you-tubers left ????. Anyways, can’t wait till the next blog, best of luck.

Hey Lade, kudos with your success with the stretch..

I stretched for 19 weeks and texlaxed today, and I’m at BSB (at least on the left side, my hair grows unevenly). I wanted to stretch for 20 but I have a packed week coming ahead soon and the extra moisturising that my hair needs would have been difficult. I actually find it easier to handle my texlaxed hair than hair when deep in a stretch (partly because my hair tangles terribly the longer I stretch, and tends to get really dry too).

How else would you recommend “packaging” one’s hair when on a stretch if one doesn’t want to use a wig?

Hi Omolade, I love ur page and just to say thank you for all u do. I have been following up. I noticed my hair started shedding real bad though I know it’s as a result of flat ironing and blow drying. But I have stayed away from that for almost two years now and the shedding won’t stop. So I decided to cut my hair to shoulder length and follow your hair and wig regimen. Right now I have stretched my texlerxer going to 22 weeks and my hair still sheds excessively. Pls advice what I can do also should I stretch it some more weeks would that help? Lastly what relaxer are you using currently. Thanks Christy

Hi Lade, your hair looks awesome. I need advice on air drying my hair. I have very coarse and thick hair and very time I air dry my hair it shrinks and becomes very dry and brittle. No matter how much moisturizer I put in my hair the texture of my hair feels rough. What can I do it prevent this from happening. Also when you relax your hair do you comb your roots while the relaxer is in your hair?

      Hi Kathy
I have the same problem with airdrying. Airdrying coils up my hair and when its. completely dry its at neck length yet my real length is armpit length. so heres what i do to straighten it out: when its done drying, I put it in single braids , then i moisturize then i seal. I wake up the next morning, loosen the braids and my hair is wavy but back to armpit length.

      Hello KuuKua

As part of a hair journey most ladies hair does become thicker because breakage and shedding is reduced.
We all have genetically predetermined hair thickness but breakage causes our hair to become thinner than it is supposed to be. So when we start taking better care of our hair and minimise brekage we begin to see our hairs real thickness. another tip for fuller “looking” hair is to transition to natural or texlaxed hair.
      I hope that helps
